Course Description
Traditionally, the authenticity of the philosophical tenets of a Vedāntic school is established on the basis of the prasthāna-trayī (lit., “the three great highways”), which consists of the ten principal Upaniṣads, the Vedānta-sūtra, and the Bhagavad Gītā. Śrī Vallabhācārya was the first to include the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, which was self-revealed in the samādhi of Vyāsa, as part of śabdapramāṇa, or Vedic testimony, along with the prasthāna-trayī.
Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī, however, went a step further, declaring: “So it is that we shall focus our investigation exclusively on Śrīmad Bhāgavatam to determine, free from any inconsistency between preceding and following statements, the ultimate value for human beings” (Tattva
Sandarbha, Anuccheda 27).
Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, placed utmost importance on Śrīmad Bhāgavata Purāṇa, which He called the flawless Purāṇa. He proclaimed it as an explanation of the Vedānta-sūtra written by the author Himself, Śrī Vyāsa.
In this course, we will discuss the importance of Śrīmad Bhāgavata Purāṇa based on Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī’s tattva sandarbha.
Course Benefits to Students
Before undertaking any transformative practice and for it to be actually transformative in nature, it is essential that one is first established in a valid epistemological view. This course will help a person to understand the position of Śrīmad Bhāgavata Purāṇa as the emperor of all pramāṇas ( the instrument for obtaining knowledge) which will lay the strong foundation for identifying the goal of life and the method to attain that goal.
